Programs - Transitional Preschool

Our Transitional Preschool Program is designed for 2-1/2 year olds who are not quite ready for the structure and larger class size of preschool, but need more challenges than a toddler program offers. Children in this program must be almost toilet trained.

Communication
Daily information charts are completed on each child in transitional preschool. These charts will give you information about how your child has eaten and slept, as well as his/her overall progress. Classroom lesson plans and the daily menu are posted in each room.

Curriculum
Building independence and improving social skills are the primary goals of this program. The following goals are achieved in our Transitional Preschool:

  • Foster positive identity and a sense of well-being

  • Allow opportunities for children to demonstrate and practice their newly developed self-help skills

  • Teachers shall support developing friendships and provide opportunities for children to play alone, with another child, or in small groups

  • Encourage children to think, reason, question and experiment

  • Provide activities that demonstrate cause and effect

  • To plan activities for labeling, classifying, and sorting objects by shape, color and size

  • Discuss concepts, such as the seasons of the year

  • Introduce number concepts

  • Provide for language and literacy development

  • Introduce recognition of names, colors and shapes

  • Provide a print-rich environment
