Communication
Programs - Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten
Our Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Programs are designed specifically for three to five-year-olds.
Communication
Each classroom has a Parent Information Board. Posted on this board are lesson plans, menus, information on upcoming events, etc. Some teachers also develop and send home a monthly newsletter about upcoming class projects, past events, etc.
Curriculum
Teaching strategies at The Learning Tree are based on how young children learn. Our Preschool
and Pre-Kindergarten Program goals include:
-
Foster positive identity and a sense of
well-being
-
Develop social skills by providing opportunities for sharing, caring and
helping
-
Each student shall demonstrate, through citizenship in the classroom, that people must work together cooperatively, be considerate of others, and abide by certain
rules
-
Encourage children to think, reason, question and
experiment
-
Provide opportunities for basic math and science
concepts
-
Encourage language and literacy
development
-
Provide a print-rich
environment
-
Provide opportunities for reading
experiences
-
Encourage and demonstrate sound health, safety and nutritional
practices
-
Provide opportunities for creative expression, representation and appreciation for the
arts
-
Develop awareness that other families' and childrens' culture may be different or
similar
-
Initiate discussions and activities to teach respect and appreciation for differences among
people
The curriculum for the Pre-Kindergarten Program uses this base curriculum as a starting point. However, a Pre-K curriculum provides more in-depth detail and challenging activities. Our
Pre-Kindergarteners are well-equipped with the skills needed to enjoy a successful
Kindergarten experience.
One of the unique features of our Pre-K Program is that your child may now participate in off-site field trips. Popular destinations include museums, apple orchards, the zoo, area libraries and police and fire stations. Parents are always welcome to chaperone our field trips, which are provided at no additional cost.
