Full Day Kindergarten
 Communication:
As with all classrooms, the Full Day Kindergarten room has a Parent Information Board located just outside of the classroom. Posted on this board are lesson plans, menus, information on upcoming events, as well as a weekly newsletter. Each day, folders are sent home with any reminders or information for parents. Daily emails are also sent out each afternoon so parents are updated on what their children did each day in kindergarten.
A back to school night is hosted each fall, along with a math night for family members to experience the math activities kindergartners do on a daily basis. Parent-teacher conferences are also held two times a year, and by parent request.
Curriculum:
Teaching strategies at The Learning Tree are based on how young children learn. Our Kindergarten program strives to prepare children for the first grade. Some of the curriculum goals include:

Provide a positive experience for their first year of formal schooling

Literacy rich program-literacy activities are incorporated throughout the day

Math is taught using the Everyday Math Program, which is used in many surrounding schools

Children spend one on one time with the teacher at least once a week with a reading activity

Encourage parent involvement through parent nights

Foster positive identity and a sense of well-being

Develop social skills by providing opportunities for sharing, caring, and helping

Encourage children to practice good citizenship and work cooperatively together

Encourage children to think, reason, question, and experiment

Provide a print-rich environment

Encourage and demonstrate sound health, safety, and nutritional practices

Fitness is part of the program-children learn and practice yoga

Provide opportunities for creative expression, representation, and appreciation for the arts

Develop awareness that other families’ and childrens’ culture may be different or similar
